Call of Duty World at War is a first-person shooter game developed by Treyarch studios and published by Activision-Blizzard in 2008 for the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and Wii. It is considered to be the fifth main game in the series and returns the series to a World War II setting. The game utilizes an improved version of Infinity Wards IW 3.0 engine which they had used for Modern Warfare which increased the quality of the audio and visual effects.

The narrative of the PC, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii versions follows campaigns in the Pacific and on the Eastern Front involving the forces of the United States, Empire of Japan, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. The game is seen through the eyes of Marine Corps Private C. Miller, US Navy petty officer Locke (for one mission) and Red Army soldier Private Dimitri Petrenko and features several historic battles of WWII including the Battle of Stalingrad and the battle for Iwo Jima. The multiplayer part of the game is very similar to the multiplayer found in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare with Unlockable weapons, weapon add-ons and perks.
